Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III announced that on Saturday, July
16th, 2011, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.)
responded to assist the Clinton Township Police Department to investigate the circumstances
leading up to the crash that claimed the life of Mr. Douglas McCune, 55 of Princeton, New
Jersey.
At approximately 9:04 AM, Mr. McCune was participating in the Anchor House charity
fundraiser when the bicycle he was riding struck the rear of a 2011 KIA on Payne Road in
Clinton Township. Mr. McCune succumbed to his injuries.
Today the Hunterdon County Medical Examiner’s Office has reported to the Hunterdon
County Prosecutor’s Office that it has determined Mr. McCune’s immediate cause of death was
blunt force trauma due to the impact.
Mr. McCune suffered a fatal head injury upon impact with the stopped vehicle and being
ejected from his bicycle after impact. The 2011 KIA Sorrento operated by Sandra Gray of
Annandale was stopped on Payne Road eastbound attempting to enter a service station. Mr.
McCune was with a group of riders that just crossed State Highway Rt. 31 and were headed
east when the incident occurred.
Quote Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III:
Our investigation though active indicates that this matter is just a tragic accident. At this time we
don’t anticipate that this investigation will result in any charges.
Our hearts go out to Mr. Douglas McCune’s family, friends and associates. He was riding in a
charity event, and doing what he loved.
