Weekly Crime Summary

Time Period: August 14th – August 20th

Homicides – Between 8/14‐8/20, there were 0 homicides. In 2011 YTD, there have been a total of 17 homicides. In 2010 YTD, there were 18 homicides.

Rape – Between 8/14‐8/20, 1 reported rape incident occurred. In 2011 YTD, there have been 39 reported incidents. In 2010 YTD, there were 21 reported incidents.

In custody: Male Hispanic 25 years old
Suspect pointed BB gun at victim and identified himself as a police officer.

Robberies – Between 8/14‐8/20, 8 reported robberies occurred; 2 armed robberies and 6 strong‐arm robberies. Three robberies occurred in the 100 block of N/S Long Beach Bl. In 2011 YTD, there have been 289 robberies. Total robberies are down 21% from last year. Armed robberies are down approx. 40% from last year. Strong‐arm robberies are down approx. 12% from last year.

Susp: Male Black, 30 yrs, Medium Build, wearing blk hood sweatshirt, blk shirt
Weapon used: Silver Semi-Auto Handgun
Property Taken: $500 US. Currency


Aggravated Assaults – Between 8/14‐8/20, there were 13 reported assaults. Of those reported assaults, 7 were domestic violence/child assault. There were 2 gang related assaults. Aggravated assaults are down 14% from last year.

Residential Burglary – Between 8/14‐8/20, there were 10 reported residential burglaries. RD 2851 and RD 2831 each had two reported incidents. In 2011 YTD, there have been 475 residential burglaries. Residential burglaries are up approx. 3% from 2010.

Commercial/Other Structure Burglary – Between 8/14‐8/20, there were 5 commercial /other structure burglaries. In 2011 YTD, there have been 147 incidents; down nearly 10% from 2010.

Grand Theft – Between 8/14‐8/20, there was 1 incident of grand theft. Grand thefts are down 5% from 2010.

Grand Theft Auto – Between 8/14‐8/20, there were 35 reported stolen vehicles. In RD 2851, there were 3 sedans, and 1 SUV stolen between 14300‐14800 block of Atlantic Av. In 2011 YTD, GTAs are up approx. 17% from last year.

Vehicle Burglary – Between 8/14‐8/20, there were 5 vehicle burglaries. In 2011 YTD, there have been 328 vehicle burglaries; down approx. 9% from 2010.

Petty Theft – Between 8/14‐8/20, there were 3 petty thefts. In 2011 YTD, there have been 398 petty thefts; up approx. 10% from last year.
Arson – Between 8/14‐8/20, there were 0 incidents of arson. In 2011 YTD, incidents of arson are down approx. 24% from last year.
