New Jersey American Water to Temporarily Change its Water Treatment Process in Preparation for Hurricane Irene

15 Union County Communities May Notice Increase in the Taste and Smell of Chlorine in Water

The County of Union has been notified by representatives from New Jersey American Water, located in Bound Brook, that in preparation for Hurricane Irene and its expected impact on our area, New Jersey American Water will be temporarily changing its water treatment process at Raritan-Millstone and Canal Road water treatment plants from a chloramine (combined) residual to a free chlorine residual.
This change will take place beginning August 27, 2011 until September 7, 2011. During this time period, customers may notice increase in the taste and smell of chlorine in the water. This is normal and will only be temporary. As always, we will continue to monitor the water quality to ensure the service we deliver meets federal and state drinking water standards.

This change in treatment will affect the following Union County communities.:

Elizabeth
Fanwood
Garwood
Hillside
Kenilworth
Linden
Mountainside
Plainfield
Roselle
Roselle Park
Scotch Plains
Union
Westfield
