Serial Bank Robbery Suspect Apprehended

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is reporting the apprehension of the Serial Bank Robber from Bedford Township, Monroe Michigan.

On August 23rd, 2011 at approximately 10:10AM, a suspicious white Ford Fiesta was spotted in the area of Lewis Ave. and Smith Rd. At this time the vehicle did not have a license plate. Monroe County Deputy Sheriff Damon Cecil attempted to stop the vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle fled into Toledo where the pursuit was called off, in the area of I-75 and I-280, due to the heavy volume of traffic.

A short time later, the Toledo Fugitive Task Force located the suspect vehicle in an apartment complex at Manhattan Blvd. and Suder Ave. Toledo Ohio. Monroe County Detectives met and confirmed the vehicle was from the earlier fleeing and eluding incident.

Detectives set up surveillance on the suspect vehicle and observed a male subject enter the vehicle and drive it around to the other side of the complex. At this time detectives made contact with the subject and learned the where abouts of the suspect.

While at the scene, detectives learned from witnesses that the suspect was hiding inside one of the apartments of 3555 Manhattan Blvd. A perimeter was setup with the assistance of the Toledo Fugitive Task Force, Toledo Police, the Monroe County Aviation Unit and Monroe Sheriff Detectives.

Detectives observed the suspect running into an apartment on the second floor of the complex. Officers made entry into the residence and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation, the suspect was positively identified as the driver of the vehicle in the earlier pursuit. It was also determined this same 21 year old male suspect from Toledo was responsible for the four(4) bank robberies in Bedford Township since February 19th, 2011.

Critical evidence was located in the vehicle linking the Toledo man to all four bank robberies, including an attempted bank robbery that was prevented by Monroe County Deputy Sheriff Damon Cecil.

The 21 year old male was lodged in the Lucas County Jail on charges of Fleeing and Eluding and four(4) counts of Bank Robbery.

Identification of the suspect is pending extradition and arraignment to Monroe County Michigan.
