Police Impersonator

On Saturday the 20th, we received a call reporting a possible police impersonator. The victim told police that on Thursday night (August 18th) she had just left work (nearing 11pm) and was heading home when she was approached and stopped by a vehicle with a red strobe light in the 3100 Block of West Brigantine Avenue. The driver of the vehicle (who remained in the vehicle in the entire time with the interior light on) motioned for the victim to come over to him. When she did, he stated that he was a police officer and asked her age. He went on to ask her if she knew the local bike laws, why wasn’t she wearing a helmet or have a light on her vehicle, and where she was going/coming from. He then asked her if she had been drinking and ordered her to perform sobriety testing, including producing a device that supposed to be a breathalyzer. The man then reminded her that she had 4 minutes to get home before curfew and followed her to the corner near her home before leaving the area. The male is described as white, aged 35-40 with a stubbly beard and brown hair. The vehicle he was driving is described as a small older maroon or red 4 door car with darkened windows, an air freshener Christmas tree, and a cracked passenger headlight. If anyone saw or heard something, please contact Brigantine Police Department at 609-266-7414.
