Please stay cool & hydrated during this extreme heat weather.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the McHenry County Department of Health offer some suggestions to assist the community with the extreme heat that we will be experiencing this week. Keeping yourself cool and keeping a watchful eye on seniors, young children, and pets is very important so they do not experience a heat related medical condition. Staying hydrated is very important during the extreme heat.

• Community Pools

Senior Services Associates, Inc. of McHenry County can assist seniors with a place to cool off and other resources. During business hours of 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Senior Services welcomes seniors to come and cool off at their locations in Crystal Lake or McHenry. One can call Senior Services at (815)356-7357 to obtain other assistance as well.

While traveling, you can cool down at one of the seven Illinois Tollway Oases. Additional information on the State of Illinois cooling centers can be found at:

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention encourage those that may be working in the heat be careful as well. Workers who are exposed to extreme heat or work in hot environments may be at risk for heat stress. Exposure to extreme heat can result in occupational illnesses and injuries. Heat stress can result in heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, or heat rashes. Heat can also increase the risk of injuries in workers as it may result in sweaty palms, fogged-up safety glasses, and dizziness.
