Structure Fire Displaces Seven People

At 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Heartland Fire & Rescue in La Mesa responded to a structure fire reported in the 5-thousand block of Thorne Drive. As fire crews arrived on scene smoke was seen coming from one of the three units of a tri-plex single story structure at 5055 Thorne Drive. La Mesa Firefighters, with assistance from San Diego Fire, had the fire knocked down in ten minutes. This quick response kept the fire from reaching nearby homes.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation. Damage estimates have not yet been determined. There was one minor burn injury to one of the residents, but they chose not to be transported. The American Red Cross is now assisting seven people displaced by the fire that affected all three units of the tri-plex.
