Police Incident: Stabbing
On 7/16/11 at 1:30pm Perth Amboy Police Officers responded to a reported stabbing in the area of Madison Ave and Gordon St. Officers located the victim, Orlando Mercado, 21, Avenel, NJ. Mercado had been slashed across the back with a box cutter. Mercado was uncooperative with the police and was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center by Raritan Bay Medical Center EMS. Police obtained description of the suspect from witnesses and searched the area. At 2:00 pm the suspect Jonathan Fonseca, 26, Perth Amboy, turned himself in at Police Hq. Fonseca has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. Bail has not yet been set. Anyone with information about this incident can contact Det.
