On June 17, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., the Ventura Police Command Center received a 911 call of a bank robbery that had just occurred. The information received from the bank was that the suspect had entered the bank, went to an open teller and indicated it was a robbery and demanded that the teller put all the money into a backpack.
The teller, fearing for her safety, complied with the demand and gave an undisclosed amount of currency to the suspect. The suspect fled the bank and apparently had taken a dye pack in the currency, which exploded, leaving him with marked money.
A few hours later an astute witness saw the suspect washing money in the pool at a motel on Johnson Dr. and called the Ventura Police Command Center. Patrol Officers arrived on scene and detained the suspect in the pool area.
The suspect was taken to the Ventura Police Department where the investigation continued. The suspect was identified by surveillance videos from the bank. It appears that the suspect may be responsible for additional bank robberies that have occurred within Ventura County, these investigations are on going with allied agencies and the FBI.
The suspect was booked into Ventura County Jail for bank robbery.
If there are any additional witnesses to this crime they are urged to contact the Ventura Police Department or the FBI.
