Hazardous Waste Disposal at DPS 5 Farm Ave 9AM-1PM

The city is holding its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Public Services, 50 Farm Ave. Non-residents may drop off materials starting at 11 a.m. and will be charged a higher fee.

Clean Harbors Environmental Services will accept oil-based paints, varnishes, pesticides, spray cans and other household hazardous chemicals. Commercial/industrial waste, latex paint, ammunition, asbestos, radioactive material, fire extinguishers or medical or biological wastes will not be accepted.

There will be a $20 fee for Peabody residents; non-residents will pay $24 for up to 10 pounds/gallons or $44 for up to 25 pounds/gallons.

The most each person can bring is 25 gallons or 25 pounds. Contractors may not use the event to dispose of materials.

Televisions and computer monitors can be disposed of with the purchase of a $10 sticker, available on-site. In addition, residents may also dispose of mercury-containing waste, including batteries, thermometers, thermostats and fluorescent lamps at no cost.

If you can't make it today, Peabody allows residents to drop off waste oil, car batteries, tires and propane tanks year-round during normal business hours year round at 50 Farm Ave.

To ensure safety, the city asks you to: leave materials in original labeled containers; tighten caps and lids; place containers in sturdy upright boxes rather than in garbage bags; avoid smoking while handling hazardous materials; and do not mix chemicals.

The event will be held rain or shine.
