Benicia Police Collect 152 Pounds of Prescription Medications During Take Back Event Last Saturday, April 30th.

Seventy (70) Benicia and Vallejo residents took advantage of the Benicia Police Department's prescription medication take back program last Saturday, turning in 152 pounds of unwanted, expired, or unused prescription drugs. Forty-two (42) of the 70 were Benicia residents.

"This is the first time we've offered this service, and the response was great," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "We weren't sure how many people would take advantage of this service. We hope to organize another take back day in the next six months or so and I would anticipate even more citizens turning in their unwanted prescription medications."

Benicia Police Department's Laura Williams, a Community Services Officer who oversees the department's evidence room and evidence collection process, organized the take back with DEA. Benicia Police Corporal Pat Tracy assisted the citizens who came in during the four hour time frame. "CSO Williams and Corporal Tracy did a great job on this event," Lt. Daley commented. "We'll keep the public informed as to the date of the next take back day."
