Mayor Swearengin to Launch New Directory Featuring
More Than 1,500 Local Restaurants and Retailers

FRESNO – On behalf of the City of Fresno and The Fresno Bee, Mayor Swearengin and Will Fleet, publisher of the Fresno Bee, will launch the second annual “‘Eat, Play, Shop Fresno- a Directory of Neighbor-owned Businesses” on Wednesday, May 4, at 10 a.m.

The event will be held at downtown’s new Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company, 746 Broadway.

“Eat, Play, Shop Fresno- a Directory of Neighbor-owned Businesses” is a special edition publication that will be included in The Fresno Bee on Saturday, May 7. It will be distributed to approximately 70,000 Fresno residents.

In the publication, residents will find more than 1,500 locally owned, independent restaurants, retailers and entertainment venues in the City of Fresno that have a current business license. This edition also will include the inaugural Best Locally Owned Business Award (BLOB) winners, highlighting 23 local businesses that were voted the best in their specific category by more than 1,500 ballots cast by the public.

“When I met with local restaurant and retail business owners back in 2009, the ‘Eat, Play, Shop Fresno’ directory was a priority for this group of business owners,” Mayor Swearengin said. “They wanted the City to help promote their industry and make it easy for residents to identify which businesses are local in our community. The message about the importance of supporting our local businesses is really resonating with our residents.”

The BLOB Awards were hosted by the Fresno Regional Independent Business Alliance (FRIBA), a business member organization that has launched a community-wide marketing campaign to educate consumers about the importance of supporting our local, independent businesses.
