Theft

On Wednesday, 04/27/2011 at 2 pm police were dispatched to the area of Chase Bank on Smith Street on a report of a robbery. Upon my arrival victim stated that minutes prior she was walking northbound in front of 315 State Street (Mi Tierra Restaurant) with her Daughter, when a black male wearing beige shorts and a jean jacket who was walking in the opposite direction grabbed her gold necklace with cross pendant from her neck and started running southbound on State Street, towards the McGinnis School. Victim lost view of the suspect and called the Police when she got to Smith Street and State Street.

ASSAULT AGGRAVATED WITH WEAPON

On Tuesday, 04/26/2011 at 7:22 pm police responded to a report of an assault with a baseball bat in front of 437 New Brunswick Avenue (Belmonte's Pizzeria).

The assault was witnessed by an off-duty police officer, who followed the suspect who fled the area in a Ford Explorer in his vehicle. The off-duty officer followed the suspect vehicle onto highway 440 until police arrived and stopped the vehicle on the Outer bridge Crossing. Jose Luis Peralta-Betemit, age 27 from 184 First Street, Perth Amboy, NJ was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Bail was set at $20,000.00 no 10% option by the Honorable Judge George Boyd. Three other warrants were also found during the booking process.

Victim was transported to the Raritan Bay Medical Center by EMS for medical attention.


Disorderly Group Arrested on Sadowski Pkwy.

On Tuesday, 04/26/2011 at 6:15 pm police were dispatched to the area of Sadowski Pkwy and State Street on a report of a large group of individuals who appeared as if they were gathering to fight.

The caller stated that she observed a group of Hispanic males in that area of Sadowski Pkwy and State Street take out machetes from their clothing and place them on the beach and cover them up with sand. She specifically gave a description of a Hispanic male wearing a red baseball cap, black shirt with blue lettering on it. She stated that she observed that individual place a machete on the beach and cover it with sand. After a police investigation eight people were arrested and charged with various crimes including possession of a weapon, weapons possession for unlawful purpose, and disorderly conduct. Two machetes were recovered and placed into evidence. Bail was set by the Honorable Judge George Boyd.

ROY ESTEVEZ, age 18, 239 State St, City

CEASAR DIAZ, age 24, 767 Parker St, City

JUAN ` ALVARDO, age 18, 651 Charles St, City

The other defendants arrested were all juveniles.
