Criminal Activity Highlights for the week of 04/18/11 to 04/24/11

1616 hrs

Subject(s) removed an unlocked vehicle with the keys left on the front seat from 4301 N.W. 36th Street (Hydraulic Supply). The 2001 Ford F550 was equipped with a Lojack system and Medley Police contacted MSPD to advise that Hialeah Gardens PD had recovered the vehicle at 9300 N.W. 77th Street (Wal-Mart).

1600 hrs

A guest at 105 Fairway Drive (Sleep Inn) left his GPS on the front desk of the inn. When he returned to retrieve it, it was no longer there; value $200.00.

1930 hrs

Subject(s) entered a locked screened-in patio in the 800 block of Westward Drive by cutting a hole in the screen door to unlock the handle. Once inside the patio area, the subject(s) unsuccessfully attempted to pry open the back door of the residence.

0730 hrs

A guest at 5001 N.W. 36th Street (Airways Hotel) stored five large duffle bags containing clothing in the hotel’s storage room, assisted by the desk clerk, who locked the door in the guest’s presence. When the guest went to retrieve the bags they were no longer in the storage room; value $18,030.00.

0820 hrs

Subject(s) broke the driver’s side window of a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Desoto Drive and removed a GPS; value $300.00.

1156 hrs

Subject(s) entered a fenced-in yard in the 300 block of Minola Drive and removed a pool pump; value $475.00.

1601 hrs

An owner of a vehicle parked at 1401 Westward Drive (M.S. Community Center) was walking to his vehicle when he heard glass breaking. As he approached his vehicle, he observed a black male reaching inside the vehicle. When the subject saw the owner approaching, he fled to a vehicle occupied by a second subject. The subject vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed southbound on Chippewa Street. The damage to the window is $250.00.

0830 hrs

An officer on patrol came upon an abandoned vehicle parked in the southbound lane in the 600 block of Forrest Drive. The vehicle was unoccupied and running, no key was in the ignition and all doors were unlocked. After contact was made by MDPD with the owner of the vehicle, it was determined to be an unreported stolen vehicle.

1130 hrs

Subject(s) attempted to remove a tire and rim off a vehicle parked at 101 Fairway Drive (Homestead Inn). The lug nuts were removed from a rear wheel of the vehicle. Upon closer inspection, it appeared that the subject(s) attempted to remove the wheel causing the vehicle’s axle to fall onto the inside rim; causing damage to the rim and axle. The estimated damage is $5,100.00
