Benicia Police Arrest 2nd Suspect in Last Nights Burglary/Car Theft

Continuing the investigation into the early Friday morning arrest of a Richmond parolee for auto burglary and other charges, Benicia Police identified and arrested a second Richmond resident, 26 year old Jose Luis Perez for possession of stolen property, conspiracy and attempted vehicle burglary. In addition, Perez had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.

Early Friday morning, a resident called the Benicia Police Department to report two male subjects were tampering with a vehicle parked on the street. Officers arrested a parolee from Richmond but his accomplice was able to escape the scene. Today Perez reported his vehicle was stolen which coincidentally was the same vehicle used in the incident last night. After questioning by Benicia Officers, Perez admitted his vehicle was not stolen and that he and Rodriguez drove the vehicle here from Richmond and committed last nights crimes.

Perez was booked in the Solano County Jail in Fairfield. "This is an example of the excellent investigative work by Benicia Officers after their initial response," said Lieutenant Bob Oettinger. "Officers following up on the arrest of Rodriguez were able to develop good leads that led to the apprehension of Perez. As a result, the property stolen in this case was returned to the victims".
