Criminal Activity Highlights for the week of 04/11/11 to 04/17/11

0834 hrs

Subject(s) removed two Ford F650 trucks parked at 3549 N.W. 42 Avenue (Old Shoney’s parking lot). A records check on the vehicles revealed that one of them was discovered abandoned by MDPD at N.W. 74 Avenue and 50th Street and towed by Magic Towing. The owner will furnish MSPD with a detailed list of tools and equipment that were on the trucks. The estimated value of the two trucks is $68,000; the estimated loss of tools and equipment is approximately $3,000.00. The owner was advised of the recovery of one of the vehicles.

Subject(s) entered an unlocked hotel room at 3401 N.W. 42 Avenue (Red Roof Inn) and removed a laptop computer and a camera. The guest stated that she had noticed the door latch was not working properly, but left the door unlocked thinking she would not be gone long. The estimated loss of items removed is $800.00.

Three apartments at 241 South Royal Poinciana Boulevard were broken into. The first one was discovered at 1257 hrs when the resident returned from work. The resident went to unlock the deadbolt and discovered it was not locked. Upon entering the apartment he noticed that it had been ransacked. The second apartment was discovered at 1532 hrs when the resident returned from work. The resident entered through the locked front door and did not notice anything until she entered the kitchen area and noticed items that sit on the kitchen window sill were on the floor. She then noticed the kitchen screen on the ground outside. The third apartment was discovered at 1828 hrs when the residents returned home and found the front door slightly ajar. Upon entering they found a bedside table had been rummaged through as well as a dresser.

Subject(s) smashed the driver’s side window of a vehicle parked at 433 South Royal Poinciana Boulevard (apartment complex) to gain entry. Once inside, subject(s) removed the car stereo valued at $100.00. The damage to the door window is estimated at $250.00.

Subject(s) smashed the driver’s side door window of a vehicle parked at 333 South Royal Poinciana Boulevard (apartment complex) to gain entry. Once inside, subject(s) removed a golf bag containing a set of clubs, miscellaneous tools, a spear gun and a shop vac. The estimated loss is $1,750.00.

Subject(s) entered an apartment in the 200 block of Canal Street through a bathroom window. Once inside, subject(s) ransacked the bedroom area and removed $7,000 that was hidden under a nightstand and a handgun that was inside the nightstand. The estimated value of the handgun is $400.00 for a total loss of $7,400.00.

Subject(s) smashed the driver’s side window of a vehicle parked at 685 Miller Drive (apartment complex) to gain entry. Once inside, subject(s) removed a GPS system and a CD player; the estimated loss is $260.00.

A male victim was jogging on Westward Drive when he made a right turn onto Cross Street and was approached by two subject(s), both white males. Both subject(s) in English and Spanish demanded the victim to give them his property. One of the subjects attempted to grab the victim at which time the victim punched the subject in the face. The other subject pulled the victim to the ground. During the struggle the subject punched the victim on his chin. Both subject(s) continued to demand his property which was a cell phone with headphones. The subject(s) then began to run southbound on Cross Street. The subject(s) got away with the headphones but not the cell phone. A Bolo was issued for the subjects and an area check was conducted with negative results.
