Volunteers sought to serve on Gilbert 9/11 Memorial Committee and to host fundraisers to support effort:
The town has acquired an eight foot long, 1,500 pound beam from the World Trade Center through the long time efforts of the Town Manager Collin DeWitt. With the 10-year remembrance approaching, a community committee has been formed to help funds to build a Gilbert 9/11 Memorial.
"This was a very solemn and respected operation," DeWitt said. "This is something children will be able to touch, something we plan to mount and have as a memorial for every September 11th; a place we can assemble every year to remember, and memorialize that sacrifice."
The Town is seeking additional Gilbert citizens to participate on the 9/11 Memorial Committee. To learn more about the commitment and to get involved, call the Town at (480) 503-6353.
The beam will be on display throughout Gilbert during festivals and community events to help with fundraising.
