Police Respond to Drowning in Tuolumne River

Modesto, CA- Modesto Police responded to a report of a man in the Tuolumne River. Modesto Fire Department River Rescue Team was deployed.

Around 1130 this morning a 68 year old Modesto resident, was boating in the Tuolumne River between Crowslanding Rd and Carpenter Rd. The 8-10 foot fiberglass boat began to take on water according to witness and the man went into the water. Once in the water the swift moving current swept both the man and his boat down the river. At a curve in the river the man became tangled in the foliage at the river edge and stayed tangled until the Modesto Fire Department River Rescue Team was able to recover the boater. Once the man was loaded the Fire Rescue Team transported the man downstream to a ramp near the Carpenter Rd. overpass.

The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The name of the victim has not been released pending family notification.
