Sailboat aground / Surf rescue

Date/Time of Incident: April 1, 2011 / 0142 hours

Incident Location: Shoreline at Marina Park / Ventura Harbor’s north entrance

Injuries: None

Fire Equipment: Ventura Harbor Patrol boat, 2 Ventura paramedic engine companies, 1 Ventura paramedic truck company, 1 AMR ambulance and 1 Ventura County Ocean rescue squad.

Narrative: Ventura Harbor Patrol, Ventura City Fire, AMR ambulance and Ventura County Fire resources were dispatched and responded to a 34-foot sailboat aground on the beach at the north entrance of Ventura Harbor west of Marina Park. When first responders arrived, two adults (one male, one female) were still onboard the grounded vessel in light surf conditions. Rescue swimmers from the Harbor Patrol and fire agencies, assisted by shore-based rescers, removed the occupants of the sailboat and safely relocated them to the end of Greenock Lane where they assessed for injuries. Neither person was injured. Harbor patrol and USCG Channel Islands personnel then made arrangements for Vessel Assist to begin boat salvage operations.
