Two juvenile males, possibly smoked synthetic marihuana. Arrested, transported to hospital for treatment.

DATE: Monday, March 28, 2011

Lower Paxton Twp. Police responded to the Colonial Park Mall on Friday evening for a report of a drug overdose. Upon arrival, officers observed a 15-year-old male who was vomiting, screaming and lifting himself off the pavement despite being held down by three Mall Security Officers. Another disorderly 15-year-old male was also being restrained by other Mall Officers. The responding officers described the behavior of the first male as being similar to a person on PCP. Investigation into the incident revealed that the teenagers were apparently smoking a substance sold as incense similar to the now Federally banned products Spice and K2. A pipe, which police were told was used to smoke the substance, was confiscated from a third youth. That youth told police that the substance was purchased at a Township store, the name of which is being withheld by police at this time. The first two youths were transported to the Harrisburg Hospital ER by Susquehanna Township EMS. Parents are strongly cautioned to pay close attention to any indications that their children may be ingesting these substances such as:

1. Behavioral and personality changes
2. Trouble sleeping
3. Manic episodes
4. Nausea and vomiting
5. Odors of incense burning
6. Packaging in trash

Lower Paxton Twp. Police are being assisted by the Dauphin County Drug Task Force and the DEA in determining if the substance is covered by the emergency ban instituted by the DEA last year. The three teenagers involved in this incident, all Township residents, were issued citations for Disorderly Conduct, a summary offense.
