Do1thing is a 12-month program that makes it easy for you to prepare yourself, your family, and your community for emergencies and disasters. The do1thing program breaks the job of emergency preparedness into 12 smaller monthly pieces:

• Each month, the program focuses on one area of emergency preparedness and provides a variety of actions that you can take to become better prepared.
• If you do1thing each month, by the time a year has passed, you will have taken big steps towards preparing yourself, your family, and your community for emergencies and disasters.

The mission of do1thing is to move individuals, families, organizations, businesses, and communities to prepare for all hazards and become disaster resilient.

In an emergency you may be told to stay where you are for safety. Find out ahead of time how you can safely shelter in your home or workplace, no matter what the danger is.

THE GOAL: Know how to respond safely when instructions are given to evacuate or take shelter.

Do One Thing (choose one thing to do this month):

•Identify the best tornado shelter in your home and workplace.
•Make a Go Bag for emergency sheltering.
•Talk to your child's school regarding their sheltering procedures.
•Have a leash or carrier to evacuate or contain your pet in an emergency.

See the Shelter Fact Sheet for more information on sheltering at:
