Man Killed After Attempting To Break Into Homes 
MODESTO, CA: An unidentified adult male was shot and killed after attempting to break into homes in the 3700 block of Densmore Lane in Northeast Modesto.
At approximately 4:53 p.m. the subject escaped from Doctor’s Behavioral Health Center and was reported by several 911 callers running in front of traffic on Briggsmore Avenue near Claus Road. He then swam across the canal and ran into the neighborhood of Densmore Lane. Several more 911 callers reported he was trying to break into homes in the area. He broke the front window of an occupied residence and tried to get inside. Witnesses told investigators he armed himself with a large piece of glass from the window and started cutting himself with it.
As this was unfolding, an off duty CHP Officer who was in the area made contact with the suspect who was reported to be armed with a weapon. Shots were fired from the officer and the suspect was hit. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries.
This incident is being investigated by the Modesto Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
