Criminal Activity Highlights for the week of 03/07/11 to 03/13/11

0850 hrs

Unknown subject(s) broke out the window of a vehicle parked in the 300 block of South Royal Poinciana Blvd. A camera and GPS valued at $380.00 was then stolen from the vehicle interior.

1430 hrs

The tailgate was stolen from a Ford F350 truck that was parked in the 700 block of South Royal Poinciana Blvd. The tailgate valued at $3,000.00 had a built-in camera and ladder.

2212 hrs

A guest’s room at the Sleep Inn (105 Fairway Drive) was burglarized. Unknown subject(s) forced open the window and removed a laptop and video camera valued at $1,000.00 total.

1009 hrs

An officer in the area of 661 East Drive (Miami Springs Motel) made a consensual encounter with a subject and found that he had an outstanding warrant from Summit County, Ohio. The listed charge on the warrant was for kidnapping; subject was arrested and transported to Dade County Jail. Later a detective from the Summit County Sheriffs Office made contact with the arresting officer and advised him that the missing person should be with the arrestee. When given a description of the female, it matched the girl who had been with the arrestee earlier. The officer immediately went to the 661 East Drive (Miami Springs Motel) and located the missing female and transported her to MSPD. The female’s family was advised of her recovery and that she was in good condition and can be picked up at The Miami Bridge.

1917 hrs

A guest at the Comfort Inn (5301 N.W. 36 Street) returned from a trip abroad and discovered that his vehicle that was left in the Inn’s long term parking was stolen. The estimated value of the vehicle is $13,000.00.

1049 hrs

A resident in the 1100 block of Partridge Avenue went into her garage and discovered that the walk-in access door of the garage was ajar. She then discovered that the door had damage around the locking mechanism and one door hinge pin was on the ground. The subject(s) used and unknown tool to pry open the door causing extensive damage to the wood frame. Once inside the garage the subject(s) were unable to gain entry into the main part of the residence. Nothing else was damaged and it appears that nothing was taken from inside the garage. The estimated damaged to the door is $600.00.

1933 hrs

A resident in the 600 block of Ludlam Drive left a pot of cooking oil on the stove and went to check on his daughter. He later smelled something burning, returned to the kitchen and discovered the stove on fire. MDFD Ladder Engine #17 responded and extinguished the fire. There was damage to the stove, kitchen cabinets and ceiling, along with water damage by fire personal. The estimated damage is $3,000.00.
