Crime Alert Bulletin - Thieves target change left in vehicles

March 3, 2011

The Fremont Police Department responded to numerous reports of auto burglaries at the Centerville Train Depot (37260 Fremont Boulevard) early this morning. Upon arrival Officers estimated that 40+ vehicles were burglarized. The thieves were primarily targeting loose change.

When you park your car, please take precautions to make sure you are doing all you can to reduce your vulnerability.

Here are some suggestions.

• Always lock your vehicle!

• Never leave valuables in your vehicle because they will attract criminals. This includes the following items: LOOSE CHANGE, PURSE or BACKPACK, IPOD, CELL PHONE, GPS DEVICE, BRIEFCASE, GYM BAG, WALLET, CD’s, PACKAGES, etc.

• Do not leave valuables in your trunk. Take them inside with you.

• Alarm systems, steering wheel locks and other anti-theft devices are highly recommended. Activate the alarm when unoccupied.

• Call the police if you see a suspicious person around the area.

• Park in well-lighted areas.

If you witness a vehicle burglary or any other serious crime in progress, dial 911.
