Registration is now being taken for the Flagler County Sheriff's Office Citizen Academy that starts April 19.

Registration is now being taken for the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office’s Citizen Academy that begins April 19.

The six-week academy gives residents an opportunity to interact with members of the Sheriff’s Office and it gives an up close look at the operations of the various divisions within the agency.

“I encourage all of our residents to take advantage of this unique academy. Those who have completed the course have commented on how much information is provided in just a few weeks,” said Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.

Academy students will be given the opportunity to ride along with road patrol deputies. Demonstrations also will be provided by the K-9 units, motorcycle units and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.

An enrollment form may be downloaded from the Sheriff’s Office website at www.myfcso.us and mailed or dropped off at the Sheriff’s Operations Center at 1001 Justice Lane in Bunnell. Applications may also be dropped at the Robert E. McCarthy Substation at 17 North Old Kings Road in Palm Coast.
