Suspect Marcos Lomeli is In Custody - Suspect was sought for assault and robbery in Lennox (body found in backyard)

Suspect Marcos Lomeli was considered armed and dangerous and was wanted for the alleged false imprisonment, robbery, carjacking, and assault with a deadly weapon of an adult victim on Saturday in Lennox. He was arrested at about 5:30PM this evening at a motel in Pico Rivera.

Sheriff’s Homicide detectives would also like to speak with him regarding a body that was found in the back yard of a residence, as well as about two missing persons.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department detectives with South Los Angeles Station and Major Crimes Bureau followed investigative leads in their search for the suspect, which led them to the 4300 block of Rosemead Blvd. While there, a detective saw the suspect enter a motel room and requested backup. Pico Rivera Sheriff's Station deputies and Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau - Special Weapons and Tactics deputies were called to the scene. The deputies surrounded the motel room.

At about 4:45PM, the suspect called 9-1-1 falsely claiming to be held hostage. Over the ensuing 10 or so minutes, deputies worked to convince the suspect to surrender. Ultimately, it is believed the substantial show of force by deputies caused the suspect to conclude his resistance was futile, and he walked out and surrendered to deputies without incident.

The investigation is continuing.

ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE

From: LASD - Headquarters Newsroom (SHB), Los Angeles County Sheriff

Entered On: Tuesday February 15th, 2011 :: 10:44 p.m. PST
WANTED: Suspect sought for assault and robbery. Body found in back yard.

On Saturday morning, a man called South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station and told deputies he had just been the victim of several violent crimes.

This led to the arrest of a woman for false imprisonment, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, and an active search for Suspect Marcos Lomeli, wanted for the same crimes.

During the investigation, a body was also found in the back yard of a Lennox area home.

Deputies responded to a call in a neighboring community where they met with a male Hispanic adult victim. He said he had gone to visit acquaintances at a home on the 4800 block of 112nd Street, Lennox (unincorporated area).

While at the house, he alleged Suspects Jenny Salazar, 22, and Marcos Lomeli, 26, asked if they could borrow the victim’s truck.

When the victim asked why they wanted to borrow the truck, they said to move a body.

The victim said he did not want to be involved and they could not borrow his truck. They told him they were taking it anyway. To ensure they were taken seriously, one of the suspects fired a gun in the house. The suspects then beat him and tied him up.

After the suspects left in his stolen/carjacked truck, the victim was able to get loose. He ran from the house and called South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station deputies at about 8:30AM, Saturday, February 12.

Deputies returned to the house and conducted a preliminary investigation.

Deputies discovered that a married couple had been reported missing from the same address during the previous few months. James Stein, 53, was reported missing in December, and his wife Gabriella Stein, 42, was reported missing later on.

The investigation continued, which included serving a search warrant and gathering evidence at the house. Deputies noticed the house was in an extensive state of disrepair.

It was reported that the house belongs to James Stein and his wife Gabriella Stein. Suspects Jenny Salazar and Marcos Lomeli are part-time renters.

On Monday afternoon, deputies were called back to the home by a person saying that Suspect Jenny Salazar was there. When deputies arrived, they found Suspect Salazar near a Ford pickup truck that had been reported carjacked Sunday night, from the Olympic Area of the Los Angeles Police Department. Salazar was in possession of property stolen during that L.A. City carjacking.

Suspect Salazar was arrested for false imprisonment, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon of the victim on Saturday. She was booked at the South Los Angeles Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and her bail is set at $100,000.00.

Because of the totality of these and other circumstances, Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives worked with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office and returned to the house on Tuesday morning to further the search. That afternoon, the body of a man was excavated from a grave that had been dug in the backyard. The remains will be examined by the Coroner’s Office for the cause of death and identity of the deceased man.

Suspect Marcos Lomeli is not in custody but is being sought by deputies. He is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted for the false imprisonment, robbery, carjacking, and assault with a deadly weapon of the adult victim on Saturday. Sheriff’s Homicide detectives would also like to speak with him regarding the found body, and the two missing persons.

Wanted Suspect Marcos Lomeli, is a Hispanic male, 26-years old, 5’08”, 180 pounds. He was last seen in the victim’s stolen 1984 Chevy long bed truck, beige in color, with license plate 3T55454. A bumper sticker on the rear of the truck says “War is not the answer”. A photo of a similar truck is provided, but the color in the photo is different.

If seen, call 9-1-1, Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau (323) 890-5500, or your local law enforcement agency. Or, if you wish to remain anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
