Grosse Pointe Woods was approved for a new early warning siren
February 16, 2011
Dear Residents:
I want you to be aware of a new operational procedure that will be implemented on March 5, 2011 in Grosse Pointe Woods. We received an emergency management grant through Wayne County to install additional early warning sirens throughout the Grosse Pointes. These sirens are activated to warn our communities of weather emergencies, such as severe storms or tornadoes.
Grosse Pointe Woods was approved for one siren which was placed behind our scout car garage on the northern lawn of City Hall grounds. This location was chosen by Wayne County to ensure the most complete coverage and notification to residents in conjunction with our original tower located at the Lochmoor Country Club.
The siren will be activated on the first Saturday of each month for testing purposes. Each test will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. and will last approximately one minute.
Please contact the Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety at 313-343-2400 if you have additional questions regarding this procedure.
Sincerely,
Andrew L. Pazuchowski, Director
