Traffic jam on US 27 near Crossroads at about noon today caused by possible pipe bomb.
Earlier today a Campbell County Officer made a traffic stop of a car on US 27 (Alexandria Pike). The car stopped near Sturbridge. The person the officer stopped was acting strangely. During the stop the officer discovered what appeared to be a pipe bomb in the vehicle. Practicing better safe than sorry, the officer called for assistance.
The Cincinnati Bomb Squad was called to check it out. Protocol for the Cincinnati Bomb squad is to have a fire pumper and paramedic unit at the scene. This is in the event it is a bomb and goes off. Also Campbell County Emergency Management was notified.
IF you were on the road, you would have observed all those vehicles and about 8 police vehicles including the Cold Spring Police.
When the Bomb Technician approached the vehicle to take an x-ray of the suspicious pipe to see if it had the components of a bomb, we were required to close US 27 for about 10 to 15 minutes. We closed the road so that if the Bomb Technician bumps something, or if someone goes to detonate the bomb (such as terrorist may do), we do not have vehicles and people in the blast area.
IF you were inconvenienced this is the reason we stopped traffic. We are looking out for your safety.
The x-ray showed nothing and everything went back to normal.
