Benicia PD Investigates Suicide on First Street

Last night (Thursday) at 9:09 pm, Benicia police officers responded to a call on the first block of 1st Street near the south end of the street.

It was determined that a 73 year old Benicia man had parked his silver Toyota Rav4 along the east curb, got out, and shot himself in the head with a revolver while standing on the sidewalk near the front of his
car. The handgun was registered to the victim.

A note was found in the car addressed to the Benicia Police Department asking BPD to contact his wife, but it was not a "suicide note" per se. The Solano County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.

"We have been in contact with the family as we complete the investigation into this tragic situation," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "Witness interviews and evidence obtained at the scene clearly indicate there was no foul play involved. We are still working to
determine the reason behind this."

For media representatives, the Benicia Police Department will not release the name of the victim at this time. Please contact the Solano County Coroner's Office for that information. For any other questions,
please contact Lt. Mike Daley at (707)590-4259 or via email.
