Most burglaries happen during the day! Report suspicious behavior to the non-emergency number of RPD.(510)233-1214 x2

GOOD NEWS: Residential burglaries decreased slightly 4% from November to December, with 48 last month and 46 for December in the Northern District. CHALLENGE: Residential burglary continues to be a challenge. The largest number of burglaries occurred on Sundays, with a peak time of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.(This stat refers to times the incidents were REPORTED not when the occurred. They likely occurred earlier in the morning when people are at church, Sunday shopping, or at sporting events.) Combat this by joining a neighborhood watch, and reporting suspicious behavior to (510) 233-1214.

Most residential burglaries happen during the day. Things to watch out for:

- Suspicious ringing of doorbells randomly to see if someone is at home.
- Suspicious individuals hovering near property, trespassing, or entering homes through side gates.
- Individuals looking inside homes or doors, especially during the day.

Things you can do:

• Invest in an alarm system.
• Invest in a solid core door with a reinforced frame to avoid door kicks. A great door with a poor frame will not protect against door kicks.
• Never leave windows or doors unlocked.
• Trim shrubs around your home to 3 feet. No blocking of the line of sight, especially around doorways where bushes can mask someone kicking in a door.
• Report suspicious behavior to the police (510) 233-1214 (press 2).
• Report crimes in progress to 911.
• Join a neighborhood watch.
• Don't invite solicitors into your home.
• Watch out for strange vehicles and report plate numbers.
• Watch for strange people carrying items from a home or down the street.

Let's continue REDUCE property crime in the Northern District in 2011 through active reporting!
