A prime example of why we should NOT fire a weapon into the air on New Years or any other holiday. Please read below!

On New Year's Eve, Sergeant Danny Nable was driving his patrol car on I-285 near the Riverside Drive exit. He heard a noise from the front of the car. "I had no idea what it was but I knew something hit it." What hit his car was a bullet. The spent round penetrated two layers of metal and came to rest inside the insulation layer on the bottom of the car's hood only inches from the windshield of the Dodge Charger.

The bullet, most likely shot as "Celebratory Gunfire," was recovered from the car and is now a memento for the SSPD traffic sergeant. "What goes up is going to come down. Celebratory or not, it's gunfire and it's not safe." Said Nable. SSPD recorded a number of gunfire complaints at midnight however luckily, no injuries were reported
