MEDIA RELEASE - Fire Training Facility Completes Improvements

The Heartland Fire Training Facility Authority has completed long awaited improvements that will provide locker rooms, restrooms, office space and parking for firefighters in training.

The facility, a Joint Powers Authority serving nine fire agencies, has been in existence since 1974. Over the last 36 years, the facility has trained thousands of firefighters and is a great example of a regional collaborative effort. These improvements will provide critical facilities to support the annual fire academy, on-duty firefighter training and state and community college students.

The City of El Cajon managed the projects, and EC Constructors, Inc. of El Cajon was awarded the locker room project, which was designed by Ferguson Pape Baldwin Architects. This building project budgeted at $450,000 was funded through a lease revenue agreement between the City of El Cajon and the Training Authority. The parking lot project was awarded to Kirk Paving, Inc. and is funded in part with City of El Cajon Proposition O funds and will also support the future animal shelter construction project.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., January 12, 2011, at 1301 N. Marshall Avenue, El Cajon. Elected officials, fire chiefs, project managers and contractor representatives will be present.
