The Ventura Fire Department in conjunction with the Ventura Police Department has moved to close Grant Park in the City of Ventura including the Father Serra Cross area due to extreme wind activity. The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather alert and High Wind Warning for Ventura until 1200 noon on Thursday 12/30/2010. Public safety is the primary concern for the closure. Wind activity of this type posses a significant hazard from downed trees, power lines and the potential for wind driven fires in dead vegetation. The on duty Fire Battalion Chief will evaluate the current and predicted weather again at 0800 Thursday 12/30/2010 and communicate with the on duty Police Watch Commander to determine the safe reopening of the park. Roads affected into the area are Ferro Dr., Brakey Rd., and Summit Dr.
