3) Possession of firearm by convicted felon

French, Janie 46 years from Vallejo

Charge: 1) Possession of sawed off shotgun

On 12-22-10 at 4:30 PM Benicia Police Sgt. John Daley was on patrol when he noticed a Toyota Camry backed into a parking stall in front of US Bank in the Southampton shopping center, while providing extra patrol of the banking institutions in Benicia. A registration check showed an address out of the Western Contra Costa County area.

The vehicle departed the shopping center and Sgt. Daley noticed the rear plate was different than the front plate and it returned out of Vallejo and the registration was expired.

A traffic stop was initiated on Chelsea Hills Drive north of Warwick Drive. French was contacted as the driver of the vehicle. She provided documentation as to ownership of the vehicle, which belonged to her. Hall was contacted while seated in the rear seat behind the driver.

A consent and parole search was conducted on the vehicle. Officer Kirk Keffer, assisting Sgt. Daley, located a sawed off shotgun was located in the trunk of the vehicle.

Both subjects were arrested, transported and booked into the Solano County Jail in Fairfield on the above charges.

"We're still not sure what they were doing in the shopping center," Benicia Police Lt. Bob Oettinger said. "The alert Sergeant may have prevented another crime from occurring."
