Narrative: Ventura City Firefighters responded to a reported gas leak at Ventura High School. Upon arrival, firefighters found that an exterior gas supply line had been ruptured and was leaking gas from an excavated hole into the atmosphere. Firefighters placed hoselines in operation as a precaution and began to monitor the surrounding atmosphere for gas concentration levels. The adjoining building was determined to be sealed and free of any escaping gas products. This occurred after school hours and the area was safely isolated from any people or ignition sources. The cause of the leak was determined to be a contractor digging for soil samples in an effort to determine water table levels. The gas company arrived and had the leak controlled within 15 minutes following their arrival. No injuries occurred as a result of the leak.
