Visit for holiday safety tips!

Not everyone shops the legal way!
Some people might just break into your car and help themselves!
Stop 'em cold!

Every two minutes a vehicle is burglarized in Texas. During holiday shopping seasons, we see an increase in vehicle burglaries in retail areas. Typically, people have more valuables in their cars this time of year. The Lewisville Police Department wants to take this opportunity to remind our residents to “Lock, Take, and Hide.”

This Holiday Season, help us help you!

You can help reduce car burglaries by following these simple rules:

“Lock” - Lock your car. An unlocked vehicle is an open invitation to a car thief. Be sure to lock all points of entry into your vehicle and shut tight any windows including the vent or wind-wing windows. Try to park your vehicle in well-lit areas at night. Use a secondary anti-theft device if you own one.

“Take” – Take your keys with you. Don’t leave the keys to your vehicle inside your vehicle.

“Hide” – Hide your belongings. Place your packages out of sight. Remove valuable possessions from the car. Items like cell phones, PDAs, IPOD's, jewelry, garage door openers, cameras, laptops and the bags you carry them in are just as enticing to a thief. NEVER leave your purse or wallet in your vehicle!

Don’t use the trunk of your vehicle to hide your holiday presents. Take ALL valuables into your home. If someone does enter your vehicle, they will take all your gifts from the trunk!

Most thieves don’t want to waste time breaking into your car if they aren’t guaranteed a bargain!

Lock it up, out of sight!

Additionally, if you are having packages delivered to your home, you should check for the packages on a regular basis. If you know you won’t be home during delivery times, consider having the item delivered to an alternate location.

Residents can help police by remaining aware of your surroundings and by keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity. Please notify the police if you see anything out of the ordinary.
