The Sheriff’s Department will be conducting several highly visible seat belt operations during November.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting several highly visible seatbelt, child restraint and speeding enforcement operations during the second half of November. The purpose of this project is the reduction of injuries and fatalities associated with motor vehicle crashes. This county wide project began on Nov. 17 and will end on Nov. 26.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department will conduct Seatbelt Enforcement Saturation Patrols. During the STEP grant (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) operations, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department will enforce all occupant restraint violations. STEP focuses sharply on specific times of the year and also on specific times of the day when data shows alcohol-involved and unbuckled fatalities are the highest.
This grant will allow the department to deploy additional Deputies during these time periods. This safety project is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
