Each year we receive a handful of complaints about our residents or businesses getting scammed out of their money. Please be alert even more now through the holiday season.
Phone Scams, Email Scams, and Check in the Mail Scams are quite active throughout our area, the entire state and on a national level.
You may get a call, email or someone sending a check to your home. PLEASE CALL THE POLICE IF YOU SUSPECT ANYTHING OR ANYONE BEFORE YOU SEND YOUR MONEY ANYWHERE.
Scams involve everyone but unfortunately target our elderly even more.
REMEMBER Never give out your personal information over the phone, in an email, or to anyone through a reply card in the mail. Always be careful giving out a credit card number. Check and Check again to make sure who you are dealing with is a legitimate person or entity.
BE CAREFUL because they have thought of all the answers----you must be alert to their tricky tactics.
Each year we take reports from our residents who have lost a little money to tens of thousands of dollars.
If someone is trying to get you to send money through Western Union--please be alert.
Again--ANY Concerns, or Suspicions--Call your police department.
REMEMBER--If someone is doing a legitimate transaction with you--they will have no problem giving you their info so that you can have the police check them out. If they are not a legitimate entity--they will try to talk you out of checking with the police, or they will try to convince you to complete the transaction before you get off the phone. Never cash a check and send money right away to anyone---wait for the time period that your bank will tell you that the check has cleared--or you could be surprised that alot of your money is gone!
