Reward Offered for September Benicia Cemetery Vandalism

Benicia Police are hopeful that a reward will lead to the identification of the vandals who damaged twelve (12) head stones at the Benicia City Cemetery in September. Eight head stones were uprooted and broken while four others were pushed over. Damage at the time was estimated to be about $2,000. No arrests have been made in the case.

"Solano County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in this," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "This type of vandalism does not happen very often in our city, and we are confident that a reward in this case will provide us with some leads."

Police were called to the cemetery on September 19th by the Cemetery Historian who had found the damage. Those with information are encouraged to come forward. Crime Stoppers can be contacted at (707)644-STOP (7867) and callers can remain anonymous. Tipsters can also contact the Benicia Police Department's Investigation Division through Detective Sergeant Scott Przekurat at (707)746-4244.

"These types of crimes are usually committed by teenagers using bad judgement," Daley said. "We have two School Resource Officers who we hope may be approached and provided information."

For further information on this release, contact Lt. Mike Daley at (707)590-4259 or via email.
