CADDO MILLS — The Caddo Mills City Council will consider an ordinance to tax eight liners and other coin-operated machines during tonight’s regularly scheduled meeting of the council.

The proposed ordinance will levy an occupation tax on owners of amusement machines, which are defined as any kind of coin-operated machine that dispenses, or is used or is capable of being used to dispense or afford amusement, skill, or pleasure or is operated for any purpose, other than for dispensing only merchandise, music, or service.

The ordinance will also require an amusement machine establishment, which operates amusement machines for profit, to obtain an annual permit issued by the city. The proposed cost of the annual fee is $300.

Permits and regulations will be exempt for amusement machines in private residences, religious, charitable or educational organizations, organizations not operated for private profit or machines located on the premises of publicly owned facilities.

The ordinance also prohibits persons under 21 years of age from entering the portion of any establishment where there are amusement machines that award, dispense or produce any payments prizes, tickets, coupons, certificates, or other returns.

Violation of the ordinance or the failure of a business owner to comply with any provisions of the ordinance could result in a fine not to exceed $500, and a separate offense will be deemed committed for each day a violation occurs or continues.

The council will also:

• Consider a variance for the construction of a building located at 2123 Dixie;

• Discuss and possibly take action on whether or not to include the Caddo Mills Economic Development Corporation audit with the city’s year end audit;

• Receive an update on the Caddo Downs Estates and the new wastewater treatment plant;

• Discuss and possibly act on an engagement letter from Lori Orta, P.C. to conduct the city’s year end audit;

• Consider and act on assigning an emergency management coordinator;

• Consider and possibly act on appointing Phil Eaton of Armadillo Aerospace as director of the municipal airport.

The council meets at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
