Palmdale child molestation suspect arrested after attempting to flee sheriff's deputies

A suspect in a Palmdale child rape case and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer will be arraigned Tuesday morning (Oct. 26).

After concluding an intense, three-month investigation of the circumstances surrounding the rape of a 14-year-old girl, Special Victims Bureau detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested Suspect Christopher Cain on Oct. 21.

The victim had reported that on July 23, 2010 at her Palmdale home, she was forcibly raped by her mother's boyfriend, Suspect Christopher Cain (MB/41). Using a ruse, Cain had allegedly convinced the victim to allow him to tie her up. Once the victim was restrained, Cain raped and sexually assaulted her.

The victim and her mother reported the crime to Palmdale Sheriff's Station deputies. The case was assigned to Sheriff's detectives from the Special Victims Bureau, who conducted an investigation. Possible DNA evidence was obtained from the crime scene carpet, as well as other items seized from the location.

On October 5, 2010, the DNA evidence was confirmed to belong to Cain and a warrant for his arrest was sought. On Thursday, October 21, 2010, gang detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Operation Safe Streets Bureau, as well as Special Victims Bureau detectives attempted to arrest Cain by luring him to a meeting with the victim's mother in Palmdale.

When Cain got close to the meeting site, he was seen by deputies as he abruptly changed the direction of his vehicle and fled the area at a high rate of speed. Cain, who is an admitted gang member and known by informants to always carry a firearm, was pursued by deputies for approximately two miles, as he fervently attempted to evade them. Cain's vehicle flipped several times, but he climbed out and continued to attempt to evade arrest by running away. The deputies caught up to Cain, and after a brief fight, arrested him for rape, evading arrest, and assault with a deadly weapon.

One deputy sustained an open bite wound to his finger from the suspect during the fight. A loaded .40 caliber handgun was recovered outside of Cain's damaged vehicle. Felony charges were filed against Cain. He is being held in lieu of $1,670,000.

Cain is scheduled to attend an arraignment hearing on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the Antelope Valley Municipal Courthouse, 42011 4th Street West, Lancaster.
