Benicia Police Solve Benicia High School Robbery - Arrest 3 Suspects

Acting on a variety of leads and information, Benicia Police Detectives have arrested three juvenile suspects, and are searching for a fourth, in the robbery last Friday night of two Benicia High School students at the end of the schools Homecoming football game (original press release is below).

"This investigation is an example of how this community responds to these types of crimes," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "Our initial responding officers did a great job collecting information and developing some leads. After that, Youth Services Detective Ted Criado and School Resource Officer John McFadden interviewed a number of people to obtain more leads in the case. Citizens came forward after finding property relating to the crime, which eventually helped tie in the suspects we have arrested."

Since the incident occurred last Friday night, the wallets belonging to both victims have been found. In addition, an air soft pellet gun also believed to have been used during the robbery has been recovered. Last Saturday the pellet gun was found on the grounds at Benicia High School, as was the first recovered wallet on Sunday. On Monday, the second wallet was found on a street in the Southampton area of Benicia.

Arrested Friday was a 16 year old Vallejo juvenile (who possessed the pellet gun during the robbery), a 16 year old Benicia juvenile, and a 15 year old Benicia juvenile. A 16 year Vallejo juvenile is currently being sought as the fourth and final suspect.

The three juveniles arrested were all booked into the Solano County Juvenile Hall. Each faces charges of robbery, conspiracy, and violation of probation. Once the fourth juvenile is arrested, this release will be updated.

Only one of the suspects attended Benicia HS (the 15 year old). The other Benicia suspect was in Independent Study through the BUSD, and the 16 year old Vallejo juvenile attends People's High in Vallejo.

"Our department has always placed a high priority on solving crimes such as these, especially when such young victims are involved and it happens on a school campus," Daley said. "This was a combination of good police work and help from the community."

Friday Night 10/15/10 @ 2300 hours
Two male juveniles were leaving the Homecoming Game and walking West through the center of the Benicia High school in an open outside hallway near the Administration Building. The two victims were confronted by 4 black males all between the ages of 16-18 years old and all wearing dark clothing. Two suspects focused on one victim while the other two focused on the second victim.

Both victims were ordered to empty their pockets and give their wallets and cell phones to the suspects. At one point one of the suspects produced what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun and pushed it into one victims stomach. Three of the suspects ran eastbound and one suspect ran west through the school after a School Administrator was approaching from the office area. Detectives will be reviewing School surveillance video and the investigation is on going with the assistance of the School Resource Officer.
