Mayor Hivner,

The following is the report for the Shillington Police Department for the month of September, 2010.
General Information:
• The department handled 1129 incidents
• 84 arrests were made: 23 Crimes Code violations, 35 Vehicle Code violations, 26 parking violations
Incidents of Special Note:
• 7 Incidents of theft from vehicles
• 3 Assaults
• 10 Incidents of Disorderly Conduct
• 11 Domestic dispute investigations
• 4 Cases of vandalism
• 14 Motor vehicle accidents
• The department is investigating an incident of possible child luring which occurred on 9-29-10 in the area of East Lancaster Avenue and Brobst Street.
• The Detective is working on several drug investigations in conjunction with the Berks County District Attorney’s Office. Efforts are being made to eliminate known drug activity areas.
• Arrests have been made in two previously reported theft cases.
• The department participated in a joint program with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The program focused on collecting and safely disposing of prescription drugs.
• The speed board was utilized on Philadelphia Avenue an effort to slow vehicle traffic. A speed enforcement detail is planned for a future date based on the data.
• The department conducted a speed enforcement detail in the school zone. Several citations and warnings were issued.
• Officers provided extra patrol for the football games at the Governor Mifflin Stadium.
• The department has acquired a ballistic shield. The shield will assist officers with high risk details.
• All officers are working extremely hard to provide excellent police service to the residents of Shillington. The department continues to experience strain due to lack of manpower.
• The department thanks the Borough for our updated computer network. The system added needed memory upgrade and is much quicker than our previous system.
The following training took place:
Officer Caltagirone – ENRADD and VASCAR speed timing device training
Chief Yochimowitz – Management of a Professional Police Department and Police Supervisor in-Service Training
Detective Michael Fick – BCERT Training & Active Shooter in the Work Place training

36-4 was repaired. The rear window was damaged by a prisoner who kicked the window. The cost will be paid by the prisoner.
