Watch for press release on Halloween Safety Tips in the Granite State News. Trick or Treat will be 5-7PM on 10/31/10

The Wolfeboro Police Department reminds all that while Halloween is a fun time to dress up in costumes and go trick-or-treating, some safety tips should be observed. Chief stuart Chase offered the following tips:

Swords, Knives and similar costume assessories should be short, soft and flexible. Masks and costumes should be flame retardant and well-fitting to avoid blocked vision, trips and falls. If make-up is worn,it should be removed before bedtime to prevent skin and eye irriation.

"Please dont Trick or Treat alone", Chase said. "walk in groups or with a trusted adult and fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help motorists see you. Use crosswalks when possible and carry a flashlight. Entering homes for treats should be avoided when the resident isn't known".

Chase noted that a responsible adult should examine all treats before a child eats them. "Look for choking hazards and tampering. Eat only commercially-wrapped treats and discard homemade offerings unless you know who made them," he said.

Halloween is October 31, 2010, with trick or treating between 5-7PM. "We want this to be a safe and enjoyable family event. Please Celebrate in the intended spirit of the evening. There is no temporary pass to commit acts of vandalism or to engage in behavior that could injure others. Don't forget to stop by the public safety building where police and firefighters will be distributing treats" Chase said.
