Gloucester Township Police will be participating in the 10th annual "Put the Brakes on Fatalities" traffic awareness day, on Sunday, October 10, 2010.

The motoring public can expect an increase of traffic enforcement patrols targeting texting & illegal cell phone use while driving, aggressive driving, and DUI.

Drive as though your life depended on it... because it does.

This is a practical piece of advice offered by national safety professionals to mitigate roadway incidents and save lives. On October 10, 2010, local, state, and federal safety professionals around the nation will consolidate their efforts for the 10th annual "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day."

This year's theme focuses on the unnecessary risks of distracted driving in the wake of a numerous "text driving" fatalities throughout the country. "Don't Be Driven to Distraction - Drive to Arrive," serves as this year's official slogan to remind drivers that their behind-the-wheel behavior affects everything that's not.

The nationwide movement toward traffic safety has experienced some success. In New Jersey alone, there were 583 traffic deaths occurred on state roads in 2009, a welcome reduction from 2008. Safety professionals strive to further that downward trend, with absolutely zero fatalities during the October 10 safety promotion.

The United States experiences about 93 lives lost daily due to fatal crashes that occur as a result of irresponsibly aggressive, inattentive, or impaired driving behaviors. "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day" is a national effort to change driving behavior for safer roadways and zero vehicle-related deaths.
