Fugitive wanted for the attempted murder of a Fremont Police Officer taken into custody early this morning in LA

On Monday a uniformed Fremont PD motorcycle officer spotted a stolen vehicle leaving a shopping center. The officer had stopped in the center divider, when the suspect accelerated rapidly striking the officer. The suspect continued to accelerate and dragged the officer across two traffic lanes before colliding with a metal street light. The officer and motorcycle were both pinned under the vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot into an industrial complex.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. today (Wednesday) members of the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, comprised of personnel from the United States Marshals Service, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Fugitive Task Force) and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilition (Parole Agents), arrested 40-year-old suspect Alexander Diaz at a residence in the 600 block of North New Hampshire Avenue, Los Angeles. The task force was assisted by personnel from the Fremont and Los Angeles Police Departments.

Detectives saw him enter the residence, surrounded the location, and called him to come out and give himself up. He stepped out of the residence and surrendered to the many detectives, deputies and officers on scene.

Diaz was taken into custody without incident, booked for Attempted Murder on a Peace Officer, and is being held without bail.
