Alert

Flood Watch & Wind Advisory in effect until Friday evening

FLOOD WATCH DETAILS:

* LOW PRESSURE WILL TRACK NORTH FROM NORTH CAROLINA INTO UPSTATE NEW YORK TODAY... WITH A SECONDARY LOW TRACKING FROM THE SOUTHEAST COAST TONIGHT... TO OVER EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE TRI- STATE ON FRIDAY. A STRONG SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL TRANSPORT TROPICAL MOISTURE NORTHWARD AHEAD OF THE LOWS... RESULTING IN THE POTENTIAL FOR VERY HEAVY RAIN.

* RAINFALL TOTALS OF TWO AND ONE HALF TO FOUR AND ONE HALF INCHES ARE LIKELY ACROSS THE TRI-STATE THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING... WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. THE HEAVIEST RAIN THROUGH THIS EVENING WILL BE MAINLY FROM NEW YORK CITY ON WEST... WITH THIS AXIS SHIFTING TO THE EAST LATE TONIGHT AND FRIDAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN SHARP RISES OF FAST RESPONDING RIVERS AND STREAMS. IN ADDITION... THE INTENSE RAINFALL RATES WILL LEAD TO POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODING... ESPECIALLY IN URBAN AREAS.

WIND ADVISORY:

THE WIND ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT.

SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL DEVELOP BY LATE MORNING AND STEADILY INCREASE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 50 MPH ARE EXPECTED BY LATE AFTERNOON... LASTING INTO THIS EVENING. THE WINDS WILL QUICKLY DIMINISH FROM WEST TO EAST TONIGHT.

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND MOIST SOILS DUE TO THE IMMINENT HEAVY RAIN WILL RESULT IN ISOLATED TREE DAMAGE.
