PSE&G UPGRADING UNDERGROUND ELECTRIC FACILITES IN

UNION COUNTY

Municipalities affected include Kenilworth, Cranford, Roselle and Roselle Park

(September 22, 2010 – Newark, NJ) Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G), New Jersey’s largest utility, is upgrading and replacing underground electric facilities from its Aldene Switching Station to its Merck-Kenilworth Substation.

PSE&G regularly reviews system requirements to ensure safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Several years ago, PSE&G discovered an expected overload in 2011 in the electric grid that supplies Merck-Kenilworth. To address this issue, two new 26-kV circuits to Merck-Kenilworth will be constructed.

Construction activities along this 4.2 mile circuit will take place between October 2010 and March 2011. Customers will experience no interruption in electric service as a result of this project.

Below are some dates and locations where construction activities will occur while working on the infrastructure upgrades:

1. Westfield Ave. between Seaton Avenue to Grove Street in Roselle Park between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., left lane going westbound shall remain open at all times. Work to begin on or about October 4, 2010 and continue to approximately November 26, 2010. There will be police officers at certain locations during these hours of construction.

2. County Road 610 (South Ave. in Cranford and First Ave.. in Roselle) between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. There will be police officers at certain locations during these hours of construction.

3. Westfield Ave. at the corner of Jerome Street, work to start on Friday, October 15 at 8 p.m. and continue 24-hours-a-day until this piece of the project, which is expected to be approximately seven consecutive days, is complete. During this time, the traffic plan will be as follows:

- West bound lanes will be closed between Bridge Street and Valley Road.

- Eastbound lane will be split into two-way traffic, one lane heading eastbound and one lane heading west.

To help expedite this work and alleviate traffic, PSE&G has scheduled work hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., except for the location mentioned above where work will be continuous around the clock. Please note that the above construction dates and scheduled work hours are tentative and subject to change due to the construction process.

Lane closures are expected and/or detours will be necessary during construction. Motorists may want to take an alternate route during this time. Local police will be on site at all times to oversee new traffic patterns. PSE&G will try to keep lane closures and/or detours to a minimum, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

For everyone’s safety during projects such as this one, PSE&G crews use work area protection including local police department traffic management assistance, traffic cones, barriers, utility work signage and flaggers. The utility reminds motorists to slow down and be alert when driving past a PSE&G jobsite.

Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) is New Jersey’s oldest and largest regulated gas and electric delivery utility, serving nearly three-quarters of the state’s population. PSE&G is the winner of the ReliabilityOne Award for superior electric system reliability. PSE&G is a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (PSEG) (NYSE:PEG), a diversified energy company (www.pseg.com).
