Helicopter Pilot Lt. Scott Gerow has resigned from the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office.

On Friday September 10, 2010 Lt. Scott Gerow was involved in a disagreement between himself and Brad Wivell. A report was taken for Communicating Threats. Mr. Wivell decided not to file charges against Lt. Gerow.
Sheriff McMahon requested that the District Attorney’s Office review the incident. Upon review the DA’s Office agreed that no criminal charges be filed.
At this point Sheriff McMahon requested an internal investigation initiated to see if any Sheriff Office policies had been broken. On Saturday September 18, 2010 Lt. Scott Gerow resigned from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. Subsequently, the internal investigation has been discontinued. “I hold my Deputies to a higher standard”, stated Sheriff McMahon.
