Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: Saturday, Sept. 25 10-2, 4 drop-off locations throughout the county.

On Saturday, September 25th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) first ever Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in an effort to reduce prescription drug abuse and theft in our county. The abuse of prescription drugs is increasing rapidly, particularly among our youth and is reaching epidemic proportions. These drugs are often taken from parents, grandparents and others who are often unaware of the theft. If you have any expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs you can turn them over to law enforcement at this event to be disposed of. All medications will be properly disposed of, whereas flushing them down the toilet can have potential safety and health hazards. This event is FREE and ANONYMOUS with NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Pills may be turned in without the container or labels may be removed or blacked out.

Below is a list of drop-off sites available throughout Lancaster County on September 25th from 10 to 2:

Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office 1941 Pageland Hwy., Lancaster

Buford Recreation Center 4073 Hurley-Walter Rd., Lancaster

Indian Land Sheriff’s/EMS Substation 8286 Charlotte Hwy, Indian Land – Next to the Indian Land Recreation Center

Kershaw Town Hall/Sheriff’s Substation 113 S. Hampton St., Kershaw

Deputies will be set up in the parking lot of these locations (weather permitting or inside for inclimate weather) and there will be boxes available to discard the medication in. Please help us in our efforts to reduce drug abuse in Lancaster County. Prescription drug abuse is one of the biggest health problems in our society because it is often overlooked. Many people are a source, or potential source, of these drugs on the street and they don’t even know it. Please do your part.
